Unit 2 Journey On Relaxation

Hey Everyone,
While doing the relaxation exercise I was surprised on how well it was working. I really did feel the blood from my GI tract flow toward my shoulders, my arms, and my hands. I did feel how heavy it was and near impossible to lift my arms up or even move them. The power of suggestion to control the body really made me feel relaxed, calm, peaceful, but not in a tired or sleepy way but more energized. I felt so great after the exercise I tried it again with my legs and my feet. I am sold on this exercise and I will continue to do it because it feels very amazing to me. So we really do have the power to control how blood flows and how the mind can direct the blood and redirect it for a great relaxation technique.

  1. Relaxation techniques like this one are great ways to bring the body to a different place and feel the weight of life be lifted off your shoulders. Its a techique I plan to use more often also. Stress is everywhere, and if you let it control you, serious health conditions can occur.

  3. So many people underestimate or probably more like, haven't been taught the power they can harness with their mind. We have the great ability to be active participants and influences in our own lives and for many this is amiss. It is great you tried this exercise with your legs, I am sure that brought a great sense of balance. I think how beneficial exercise like this can be for people with hypertension and what a great tool for doctors to easily incorporate more awareness and ways to teach clients to take control of their health and wellness and in return get to truly living instead of merely going through the motions or existing.

    1. I tried it with my legs too because I do have poor circulation especially in my left leg where I had a muscle/nerve biopsy done. It says numb and cold because they removed too much nerve. It was a test to see if I had MS at the time, but they came back negative. Still have that reminder of the biopsy though.

  4. Scott,

I am jealous you had such a positive experience from you relaxation. I found that I was very relaxed going in, and felt the blood moving around my body, but at the end I was completely exhausted. So much so, I had to take a nap. What am I doing wrong?..

    1. Jill,
It is possible that your body needed the rest. We all respond differently to meditation, some people use it to be able to sleep and others it takes practice to channel that energy we create when we meditate into a physical positive energy. In other words I do not think you are doing anything wrong, this just may not be the type of exercise you need to energize you :)

    2. Wow Jill, that is a way different experience. It could be that your mind was not focused enough to move the blood just to the certain body parts. The mind is a powerful tool, I did find if you were not as focused it was easy to even feel tired instead of energized at the end of the exercise. Sounds like you might have been mentally fatigued, try it again at another time.

  5. It sounds like you had a really great result from this exercise! That is wonderful to hear, it is always so amazing to me how much the mind can actually do to effect different body systems and how much of an impact simply changing our way of thought can give us so many positive benefits.

    1. It amazed me too Amy, and it really goes to show the way we think can determine how we feel whether it is positive or negative, or happy or sad, and so on.

  6. Hey Scott:

It is amazing what we can accomplish with our minds. We really can enjoy health--total health when we take the time and put some effort into it. We so often hear the phrase, "I don't have the time," but I feel we owe it to ourselves to take the time. I encourage my co-workers to get up and walk even for five minutes. Just take some time to get away from your work for a little while. Guess what, it will still be there when you get back. Helpful little fairies only happen to people in fairy tales!
